This looks so familiar to me. As an abused kid, I know the look of sad and alone that finds comfort in an animal because the people around are toxic and mean. Somehow you captured the expression of my childhood in the child's eyes. Powerfully emotional!

Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately, there are so many children who did not have a happy childhood. And I know it's hard to compensate for these experiences. A pet can really help.
